Greenfield, resident since early boyhood in the community north of Jewell. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. August Cramer, with burial in the Presbyterian church cemetery. Six grandsons served as casket-bearers: Don, Roy, Harold, and Arland Greenfield, Merlin Arends and Elton Huisman. Simon T. Greenfield was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Tjabe Greenfield. He was born at Freeport, Illinois, May 10, 1870, and died at his home north of Jewell October 6, 1949, at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 26 days. When he was 2 years old, the family moved to Carroll, Iowa where they resided 11 years. At the age of 13 years he came with his parents to Kamrar, Iowa, and his home has been in this community ever since. He married Miss Janna Koop March 7, 1893, seven children being born to this union, the oldest of whom died in infancy. Mr. Greenfield chose farming as his occupation and engaged in it until he retired in 1933. He lived for 49 years on the farm 5 miles north of Jewell. His beloved wife was called from his side 3 years ago, after which he continued to live in his own house on the farm near his son Arend and family. Surviving him are four sons: James, William, Arend and John, all of Kamrar, and two daughters: Lena (Mrs. William Huisman) of Titonka, Iowa, and Harmke (Mrs. William Arends) of Jewell; two brothers: Herman Greenfield of Jewell and James Greenfield of Blairsburg; two sisters: Mrs. Herman Wessels of Buffalo Center, Ia., and Mrs. Anna Van Langen, of Kamrar; and 27 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives. The following tribute to Mr. Greenfield was given by his pastor, Rev. Mr. Cramer, at the service Saturday. In the providence of God we are assembled here to pay our final respects to Simon Greenfield, longtime citizen of this community, a brother beloved in Christ, a gracious father, an humble and faithful follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, and an esteemed neighbor and friend. Mr. Greenfield received a grade school education, besides being reared in a Christian home where he was taught the Holy Scriptures and nurtured in prayer and the fear of the Lord, being also led from early childhood to Sunday School and worship services in the House of God. He was a longtime faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church near Kamrar, which church he also faithfully served in the capacity of deacon for over 20 years.
