Mr Bergen was returning home from a business trip in Addison, Mich., when he was stricken while driving his car. Mr Bergen was returning home from a business trip in Addison, Mich., when he was stricken while driving his car. Bernard Joseph Bergen, Jr. was born Jan. 24, 1933 in Vinton, a son of the late Bernard J. Bergen Sr. and Vera Johnella (VanDeusen) Bergen. On June 4, 1960, he was married to Karen K. Bednar at Garrison who survives him and also one son, Joe, and one daughter, Lori, at home, his mother, one sister Mrs Steve (Susan) Hite and three brothers --Keith, Phillip and Bruce Bergen all of Vinton. He graduated from Washington High School and served in the U. S. Navy and was didcharged in 1954 having served in the Korean conflict. Mr Bergen was employed at the Cedar Valley Daily Times for five years as a photographer. In 1961, he moved to Winfield where he had the Bergens Photography Studio. He was also U. S. postal clerk for ten years at Winfield, served 10 years with Winfield firemen, was structural engineer for Bunker Welding Steel Contractor Co., of Winfield. In 1973 they moved to Glenwood Springs, Colo., where he was self employed at the Epicurean Supper Club until June 1975 when they moved to Vinton. Since moving to Vinton, he had developed Solar Heating Systems and was employed by Solar X ,Mfg. Corp. He was technical advisor for Addison products Co., Addison, Mich., and was returning from Addison when stricken. He was a member of Associated Press, Winfield Chamber of Commerce, Presbyterian Church, American Legion, VFW, Iowa Midget Assoc., Minnesota Midget Racing Assoc., presdient of Solar X Mfg. Corp and retired U. S. Postal Clerk. Funeral services were held this afternoon in the First Christian Church with Rev. Fred Banda officiating and burial in the Big Grove Cemetery Southwest of Vinton. The Garrison American Legion held military rites. The Campbell-Russell Funeral Home was in charge of the serice.
