Friday 30 November 1900, McCook Republican The Marion Enterprise, Marion, NE - Thur, 4 Dec 1919 Soloman (sic) W. Stilgebouer was born in Shelbyville, Ill., on August 11, 1840. Died at Brawley, Calif., November 20, 1919. He served his country in Co. B, 14th Illinois Volunteers for several months, in the early part of the Civil War, being discharged on account of typhoid fever, the effects of which he never fully outlived. Married to Elizabeth Bastian of Mercer Co., Ohio, on October 23, 1862; to this union seven children were born, one passing away early in life, the others: W. J., Forster G., Ella M., Solomon H., Edward B., and Lulu K. and their mother, being present at the funeral. The family for a time lived in Shelbyville, and Tower Hill, Ill., Berger, Mo., and Tuscola, Ill., and came to Red Willow County, Nebr., settling near where the town of Danbury now stands, in March, 1875, where most of his life's work was done. Converted to Christ's teachings at an early age, Mr. Stilgebouer has ever been an active church worker and the people of Danbury and vicinity owe him a debt of gratitude for the efforts he put forth in the organizing and building of both their churches, as well as for the loyal support he afterward gave them. For the past 30 years he has been an active member of the Masonic Lodge, had been a Master Mason in Illinois, Missouri and Nebraska, and helped organize the first order of this kind in Red Willow county. In his death the Marion State bank loses its president, a position he has held since he helped organize the bank in 1907. The burial services at the Danbury cemetery on Monday of last week were conducted by the Masons, Asst'. Grand Custodian J. D.
