Description	:	Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thurs., Nov. 12, for Solveig Overskei, 99, Brookings, who died on Nov. 7, 2009, at the Brookings Hospital. The services will be held in First Lutheran Church at Brookings, and burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Rude's Funeral Home in Brookings. Solveig Gulstine was born on Oct. 9, 1910, in Lake County to Steffen and Dorthea (Stovner) Gulstine. She attended rural schools in Lake County; after high school, she attended Eastern State Teacher's College (DSU) in Madison and Black Hills Teacher's College in Spearfish. She taught in area rural schools for six years. She married Orville Andree Overskei on Aug. 25, 1934 at Nunda. They farmed before moving to Brookings in 1944, where she worked for J.C. Penney for 25 years. In 1988, she organized the local Visually Impaired Support Group (VIP) in Brookings. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway Fjordland Lodge #508 and a past member of the Peace Officers Auxiliary. Survivors include two daughters, Orpha (Charles) Woods of St. Paul, Minn., and Sharol (David) Forsell of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers and one sister. Memorials may be directed to the South Dakota Association for the Blind, First Lutheran Church Radio Ministry or the Overskei Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the Brookings Police Department.
