Read More	Sondra Jean (Howard) Lockwood, age 84, of Sioux Falls, died on the 22nd day of January, 2022 at Grand Living at Lake Lorraine in Sioux Falls, SD. Sondra Jean (Howard) Lockwood, was born in Huron, SD on September 3, 1937, to Orville and Dora (Hall) Howard. Sondra attended school in Huron and was active as a cheerleader. While cheerleading at Huron College, Sondra was introduced to a young school teacher and coach from Doland, SD, named Joe Bosley Lockwood. Sondra and Joe were united in marriage on January 26, 1957 in Sioux Falls and remained inseparable for over 60-years until Joe's death in 2017. Joe and Sondra lived in the same home for 53 years, neighbors became lifelong friends, cornfields became parks all while raising three sons, David, Bruce and Mark. Sondra worked for years at Lowell Elementary School in Sioux Falls where she was a teacher's aide. She enjoyed helping young struggling elementary students learn how to read and write. Following retirement, the patience learned through years of teaching became invaluable as she calmly provided guidance to seven young grandchildren. The benefits of Sondra and Joe both working in the field of education were evident during the summer months allowing them to travel and work in northern Minnesota or at YMCA Camp Tepeetonka on Big Stone Lake, SD. Joe and the three boys loved animals and wildlife; Sondra was often tasked with raising "abandoned" animals brought home, mostly by her husband. Over the years she bottle fed over 60 cotton tail rabbits, a kit fox, turkeys, ducks and two hawks, all wild and released back into nature when school resumed in the fall. Needlepoint: an artwork combining thousands of stitches carefully placed with love and devotion providing a gift to her grandchildren. Sondra began to needlepoint baby blankets as soon as she received news that a daughter-in-law was expecting. It would take Sondra months to complete each blanket always knowing the deadline for delivery was only nine months away. Her grandchildren enjoyed their blankets in childhood and will forever have a tangible gift of love from Grandma Sondra. Sondra's love, devotion and friendship that touched so many will be carried forward by family and friends including her three sons: David (Jane) Lockwood, Spearfish SD, Bruce (Jody) Lockwood, Timnath, CO, Mark (Cynthia) Lockwood, Thornton, CO and her seven grandchildren: Samantha (Dakota) Bauman, Abbie, Joe (Isa), Alex, Jonathan, Trevor and Nicholas Lockwood. Sondra was the first of seven children born to Dora and Orville Howard. Her four sisters; Cherryl (Jerry) Corcorcan of Huron, Signe (Terry) Texley of Sioux Falls, Sue (Dick) Erickson of Yankton, Peggy (Neil) Tschetter of Rapid City, along with two brothers; Jon (Patti) Howard and Kevin Howard of Rapid City. Sondra held may titles throughout her life including; daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, niece, friend and teacher. She performed her roles with dignity and grace, and she is now re-united with those who passed before and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have been touched by her life. - George Boom Funeral Home
