Sonja Lee Hanson, 60 years of age, of rural Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the CHI Health-Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. Sonja was born December 26, 1956 at Hastings, Nebraska, the daughter of Beulah Mae Anderson. She received her education from Holdrege Public Schools. Following her education, Sonja was united in marriage to Robert Fetters and to this union two sons were born: Shawn and Shane. The family made their home north of Holdrege, where she focused her efforts on taking care of her boys. Life on the farm is where Sonja’s love of animals began. She always had a special place in her heart for her animals, special bonds were formed. Throughout the years, Sonja was employed by Christian Homes and Artistic Woven Labels. While working at Artistic, she met the love of her life, Richard Hanson. The couple were united in marriage on May 18, 1990. Rich and Sonja loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening, especially attending to her flower garden. They made their home north of Bertrand for the past 22 years, where they loved the time together. She raised chickens, ducks, geese, Llamas, and her miniature donkeys were her babies. In her spare time she also enjoyed driving for Hi-Line Freight for Lola Davidson for 17 years. Most of all, she always looked forward to the time she could spend with her grandsons: Wyatt and Henry. She was preceded in death by her son, Shawn Dale Fetters in 1993; mother, Beulah Peterson; her father-in-law, Owen Hanson; brother, Michael Peterson; grandparents: Ed and Lucille Anderson; uncle, Bob Anderson; and nephew, Scott Beahm. Sonja leaves to celebrate her life; her husband, Rich Hanson of rural Bertrand; son, Shane Fetters and his wife, Amanda of Dunning, Nebraska; two grandsons: Wyatt and Henry Fetters of Dunning; sister, Tania Beahm and her husband, Larry of rural Alma, Nebraska; mother-in-law, Erma Hanson of Kearney, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Darla Cox and her husband, Dave of Overton, Nebraska and Barb Brooks and her husband, Doug of Cambridge, Nebraska; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, including special niece, Kristy Landin and her husband, Jesse of Holdrege; and many special friends, including Mark and Lola Davidson of Bertrand who were like family to her. Visitation was held on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. A memorial has been established in Sonja’s honor and will be designated at a later date.
