She was at the time of her death, 75 years, 1 month and 19 days old. She was married to Mr. David Frederick Vautravers on the 2d of Frederick Vautravers on the 2d of February, 1850. She came with her husband to America in 1856 and settled in Kansas where she lived the remainder of her life. Death is usually represented as being sightless, to show that it is no respector of persons, but that it strikes the good as well as the wicked, the rich as well as the poor, the young as well as the old. That allegory is not true as far as our church is concerned, for death seems to take pleasure in takeing away from us the best members of our congregation. Mrs. Vautravers was one of those Christian women who do honor to her sex as well as to Christianity. Of a gentle and amible disposition she was loved by all who knew her. Her faith was as sincere and solid as her hope was firm and her charity ardent. The funeral took place last Friday afternoon at the Presbyterian church of Neuchatel and was attended by a great concourse of friends and neighbors. The pastor took for his text: "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord," and showed how Mrs. Vautravers after having lived in the Lord during all the days of her long career, died in the Lord, peacefully, without fear or trembling, but on the contrary facing death with the same courage as does a soldier on the battlefield. He also showed her faith and trust in God had been rewarded even in this life by Divine Providence giving to her a beautiful family and an old age surrounded by love and respect. While speaking the pastor was moved to tears because he loved her as a second mother and because the venerable old lady treated him as one of her children. Farewell, good and kind "grandmother." Rest from your labors. Your works have followed you. All those who have known you will keep the sweetest rememberance of your virtues and qualities. A Member of the Church.
