Her span of live being 83 years, 4 months, and 14 days. Her parents, Stephen Sauner and Susan Gaymon Sauner were natives of Alsace-Loraine and first met on the ship that carried them to America. To the ground work lain by these hardy pioneers and their children and others like them, we owe our present civilization, our religious freedom, our political rights. Sophia was the oldest of eleven children, six boys and give girls Edward, Lewis, Amelius and Mary preceded her in death Frank, Henry, Harry, Anna, Louise and Lizzie, survive. She was united in marriage to Lee Kay, March 28, 1879, who preceded her to the great beyond on July 12, 1921. To this union were born four children, Homer (deceased), Lizzie, Edward, of Taylorsville, Ohio, and Starling, of Dayton, Ohio. In early life she united with the Presbyterian Church at Mowrystown, Ohio, with which church she held membership until September 17, 1922, when she transferred her fellowship to the Union Christian Church, where she remained faithful until God called her home. She leaves to mourn her passing three children, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Kay lived a quiet, unassuming, useful life. She had been in failing health for several years and had not been able to walk for over three years, during which time her every wish and want was supplied by loving hands. Here is a shorter obituary that was published in the Press Gazette on April 30, 1940: Mrs. Sophia Kay, aged 83 years, died at her home in Taylorsville, Friday following a lingering illness following complications. The Funeral Services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the Union Church, and burial was made in the Mowrystown Cemetery. Mrs. Kay is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Lizzey Laney, at home, and two sons, Dr. Starling Kay, of Dayton, and Ned Kay, of Taylorsville. (Steve Kay)
