She married William Playle, son of Joseph Playle and Elizabeth (Unknown), on September 17, 1870 in the Parish of Waltham Holy Cross, Essex, England. At the time, William was a 23-year-old bachelor making his living as a dairyman and Sophia was 20 years of age and single. She died, at age 87, on April 17, 1938 in Barton, Digby County, Nova Scotia. Dr. Harris recorded the cause of death as old age. The informant for the death registration was Sophia's son-in-law , Sydney Philip Fream of Barton. OBITUARY The Digby Weekly Courier, Digby - Friday, April 22, 1938 - Page 3 "Mrs. Sophia E. Playle Following a prolonged illness, an aged and esteemed resident of Barton passed away, when the death of Mrs. Sophia E. Playle occurred Sunday morning April 17, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S. P. Fream, Barton. Mrs. Playle was born in Scotland, 88 years ago, and in 1892 came to Canada with her husband, the late William Playle, and family. Twenty-seven years ago they came to Nova Scotia. Mrs. Playle was an artist and sold many of her paintings at home and abroad. She leaves to mourn one daughter, Mrs. S. P. Fream, with whom she had made her home for seven and a half years; and two sons, Archie Playle, of Cranbrook, B. C.; and William Playle, of Edmonton, Alberta; seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon from St. Mary's Church. Rev.
