Description	:	Mrs. Gottlieb F. Burkley died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Richtsmeier near Dumont after almost a year's illness caused from a tumor. Mrs. Burkley, nee Sophia L. Steffen, was born near Loran, Ill., where she resided until she was 12 years old when she came to Ackley with her parents. She was united in marriage to Gottlieb Burkley Dec. 13, 1888, at Ackley and they resided in that community until 1916 when they moved to Montana where they made their home for two years. Burkley died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Richtsmeier near Dumont after almost a year's illness caused from a tumor. Mrs. Burkley, nee Sophia L. Steffen, was born near Loran, Ill., where she resided until she was 12 years old when she came to Ackley with her parents. She was united in marriage to Gottlieb Burkley Dec. 13, 1888, at Ackley and they resided in that community until 1916 when they moved to Montana where they made their home for two years. In 1919 they came to Hampton and she had made her home here until last December when she was taken ill and went to the home of her daughter. Mrs. Burkley was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church of Hampton. She was preceded in death by Mr. Burkley in 1921. The deceased was survived by two daughters, Mrs. William Richtsmeier, of Dumont, Mrs. Emma Hanson, of Hampton; four sons, Fred Burkley, of Winterhaven, Calif.; August Burkley, of Bradview, Mont.; Simon Burkley of Chicago; and George Burkley of Walnut, Neb. She also was survived by five sisters and one brother. Mrs. Mathilda Thielke, Mrs. Fred Nolte, Mrs. John Sailer, Mrs. Chris Raisch, Mrs. Louis Warneke, of Ackley, and August Ricksmeier, of Ackley. Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. William Richtsmeier and at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Hampton, conducted by Rev. Paul T. Meyer, pastor of the church. [Contributed by Ken Culp.]
