Evers was born on a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa, Feb. 12, 1908, the daughter of Thomas and Meta Neddermeyer Thomsen. She was baptized as an infant in 1908, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at the same church, April 9, 1922. Evers was born on a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa, Feb. 12, 1908, the daughter of Thomas and Meta Neddermeyer Thomsen. She was baptized as an infant in 1908, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at the same church, April 9, 1922. Sophia was raised on the family farm and received her education at the Zion Lutheran School in Denison. Following her schooling she did domestic work for families in Denison. On July 19, 1927, Sophia was united in marriage with William C. Evers at Charter Oak. To this union four daughters, Shirley, Clarion, Evelyn, and Marilyn, were born. They made their home on a farm in Goodrich Township until 1967, when they retired from farming and moved to Denison where she had since resided. Sophia died at her home in Denison, Jan. 27, 1983. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 74 years, 11 months, and 15 days. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and a member of the Dorcas Society at the church. Sophia was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, William C. Evers of Denison, her four daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Virgil) Winquist of rural Denison, Clarion (Mrs. Melvin) Holdsworth of Manilla, Evelyn (Mrs. Robert) Rank of Clarinda, and Marilyn Evers of Chula Vista, Calif., eight grandchildren, one brother, Arnold Thomsen of Lees Summit, Mo., and two sisters, Louise (Mrs. John) Nicholson of Sun City, Ariz. and Mildred (Mrs. Leonard) Starr of Mullen, Neb. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 29, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with the Rev. Jack D. Heck officiating. Comfort in music was provided by Henry Henningsen singing "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden", with Mrs. Fred Rabe as organist. Pallbearers included Randall Holdsworth, Stanley Winquist, Sydney Winquist, William E. Bump, Derald Evers, and Alfred Schoenfeld. Burial was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison.
