Sophia Marie Amelia Hahn, daughter of Carl and Frederiche Kludas Hahn, was born Sept. 1, 1883 in Rock Island County, IL. She was one of 5 children. On Oct. 14, 1883 she was baptized at the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Hillsdale, IL. by Rev. L. Winters. When she was five years old she moved with the rest of the family to a farm west of Johnson, NE. in Johnson County. She attended school at the Hawthorn and Washington rural schools. On April 16, 1897 she received her Confirmation at the Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. Conrad Deubler and maintained her membership in this church for the rest of her life. On Jan. 24, 1906, Sophia was united in marriage with Emil N. Stoltenberg, the ceremony taking -place at the Stoltenberg home in the Graf community. To this marriage two daughters, Luveda and Vern, were born. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Stoltenberg farmed in the Graf community until 1945, at which time they moved from the farm and settled in Johnson. Mr. Stoltenberg passed away Dec. 5, 1951, the same day his wife was to pass away 1 5 years later. Since 1957 Mrs. Stoltenberg had made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Michel, in Auburn, NE. Mrs. Stoltenberg's health began to fail some time ago and on Oct. 22, 1966 it became necessary for her to enter the Nemaha county Hospital in Auburn. It was there that she passed away Monday evening. Dec. 5, 1966 having reached the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 4 days. Besides her husband, Mrs. Stoltenberg was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. Those left to mourn her passing include 2 daughters, Luveda (Mrs. Arthur) Michel of Auburn and Vera (Mrs. Emil) Michel of Colorado Springs, CO. One brother, William J. Hahn of Johnson. two sisters, Mrs. Eda Goering of Tecumseh and Mrs. Emma Stiles of Atchison, KS. six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; other relatives, and many friends. Casket bearers were: Wilbur Hahn, Fred P. Hahn, Roy Pohlman, Arnold Broady, William Adams, and Mort Rathbone. Assisting with flowers were Mrs. Roy Pohlman and Mrs. Mort Rathbone. Services held Zion Lutheran Church Johnson, Ne. on Dec. 9, 1966, Clergyman was Rev. F.K. Kumpf. Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
