Following is the obituary: It has pleased the Almight God in his wife providence to call Mrs. Sophie Marie Friederika Karsten nee Baumann into eternity. She was born December 13, 1860, and baptized on March 21 she was fonfirmed in Cammin, Mecklenburg. In 1881 she came to this country and lived in Otoe county, Nebraska for some years. In 1882 she entered holy matrimony with John Hallier. They came to Gosper county in 1892 where she lived the rest of her life. To this union were born two children, August Hallier and Mrs. August Langenberg. Her first husband died in 1913. Later, in October, 1916, she entered into another marriaged with Wm. Karsten. She enjoyed good health until recent years when her health failed and heart trouble caused her more or less discomfort at times. Less than two weeks ago she became very ill with pneumonia and on June 9 at 6:30 she passed away. She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, Wm. Karsten, two children Mrs. August Langenberg and family. mr and Mrs. August Hallier and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Karsten, one sister, Mrs. P. Ebmeier, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She reached the age of 72 years, 5 months and 27 days. May she rest in peace and the eternal light shine unto her forever. She was buried on Sunday, June 11, in Hope Lutheran cemetery. The services were held at the Hope Lutheran Church, Rev. K. Fenske officiating. The English sermon was based on John 14, 4: "And Whither I Go Ye Know, and the Way Ye Know." The German text was Psalms 39, "And Now Lord, What Wait I For? My Hope is in Thee."
