The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, August 5, 1976; pg. 4 ====== Funeral services for Mrs. Joe (Sophia) Kotinek were held Saturday, July 3, 1976 at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Father Peter Gadient offered the Mass of the Resurrection and officiated at the graveside services at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pall bearers were six grandsons Kenneth, Daniel, Douglas and David Kotinek and James and Robert Schroer. Sophia Mary (Hlavac) Kotinek, daughter of Martin and Francis (Karmazin) Hlavac was born in Radesin, Moravia, Czechoslovkia (sic) on April 28, 1886 and died July 28, 1976 at Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 3 months. She came to this country in 1900 and spent her entire life in the Lawrence community. On February 15, 1909 she was married to Joseph Kotinek. They lived on a farm northwest of Lawrence until they retired and moved to Lawrence in 1945. They celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1959. She was a life long member of the Catholic Church, as well as the Altar Society. Her friendly disposition earned for her a host of friends whom she appreciated very much. Her beautiful flowers everyone adored. To her family she was a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, who passed away February 7, 1967, four sons, Adolph who died in 1940 at the age of 19; Albert who died in 1932 at the age of 14; and two sons who died in infancy. Also preceded in death were three brothers and a sister. She is survived by two daughters Mrs. Joe (Mary) Hanzlicek of Riverton, Wyo., Mrs. Arthur (Lillian) Schroer of Hastings, Nebr.; two sons Tom and Eugene both of Superior; 13 grand children, 16 great-grandchildren; and three three great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Rudolph Hlavac of Nelson and one sister Mrs. Agnes Herbek of Riverton, Wyo. Friends and relatives attending the funeral were from Riverton, Wyo., Dallas, Texas, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ramona, Calif., Hastings, Superior, Lincoln, Grand Island, Blue Hill, Nelson and Deweese.
