She was one of the oldest women in the state. Mrs. Thoms was born in Grossmellen, Germany, June 9, 1826, and spent her girlhood days in the old country. She was married in 1846 to Carl Thoms and they made their home in Grossmellen, where he was a wood workman until his death, 1870. Three children were born to them, Wilhelm and Herman and a daughter who is now Mrs. Otto Giese, residing in Bellingham, Wash. Wilhelm came to the United States in 1881 and established himself on a farm 14 miles from here and sent for his mother in 1886, and she has made her home with him ever since, moving to Jamestown in 1907. Those who survive her are Wilhelm Thoms, Mrs. Otto Giese, living at Bellingham, Wash., and Herman Thoms, whose whereabouts is not known.
