Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville, Iowa. Sophie Groen was born August 30, 1934, in Hawarden, the daughter of John and Seitike “Sadie” (Keizer) Groen. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1962. She married Merlin Henry Weber on August 19, 1955, in Hawarden. She was a homemaker to her six children. After her children graduated from high school, she became employed with Teleconnect as a telephone operator, until she retired. Merlin preceded her in death on November 22, 2003. She was a member of the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church and the Mechanicsville Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking and was known for her homemade doughnuts, kolaches and bread. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading, completing word searches and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are two daughters, Peggy Beck of Cedar Rapids and Shelly Albaugh of Waverly; one son, Rick (Tonya) Weber of Marion; one daughter-in-law, Kris Weber of Stanwood; sixteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Kathy Weber and Kristie Crandall, one son, David Weber, two sons-in-law, Keith Beck and Jay Albaugh, one great-grandson, Wyatt Farrington, one sister, Sophie Groen in infancy and one brother, Karl Groen.
