In this article, he named both as sons of Redding (Redden) Hudson and Brilliancy Taylor. Backing up his article were death certificates for both brothers which named the same father. What caused confusion is that only one Allen brother appears in the 1870 census, John Allen, age 17, James who would be age 5 does not, this raised a huge red flag for me. James also does not appear in the 1880 census with father Redden. James does not appear in any census that could be found until 1900.
