Read More	BELINGTON — Sparkman Lowell “Spark” Yeager, 101 years, a lifelong resident of Belington and a 60-year resident of Brown Ave, Belington, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon June 13, 2019 in Colonial Place at Elkins. He had made his home for the past five years with his daughter and son-in-law. He was born on August 21, 1917 in Talbott Community, near Belington, the son of the late Myron Bernard and Ethel Pearl England Yeager. On July 11, 1954 he married the former Betty Jane Hathaway, who preceded him in death on May 23, 1996. He is survived by his daughter, Donna J. Endler and husband, Louis E. and a grandson, Dr. Graham Endler. Also surviving are one brother, Sterling Yeager; one sister-in-law, Carmon Yeager; eight nephews, several great- nieces; great-nephews; cousins and a special cousin, Glenna Harless. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Milford Yeager (Ida Mae) and Glen Yeager; sister-in-law; Zelma Yeager; brother-in-law, Orion Hathaway (Vivian); sister-in-law, Ruth Cottrill (Hersel) and two nephews, Gary Yeager and Alan Cottrill. Mr. Yeager graduated from Belington High School in 1938 and attended Alderson Broaddus College for one year before entering the United States Navy. He served as chief radio operator on the USS Saturn during World War II from 1942 through 1945. After his discharge Mr. Yeager began his long business career in Barbour County, first in the timber industry and the charcoal business. Along with his brother, Milford, he operated the Belington Taxi Service in the late 1940’s, and then opened the first soft-serve custard stand in Barbour County and surrounding communities. Mr. Yeager established Yeager’s 5 and 10 Store, later known as Yeager’s Variety and Hardware, which he operated until 1980. He also was the owner and operator of Yeager’s Builders Supply making cement blocks for area construction. In the mid 1960’s he purchased and operated Yeager’s Book Store in Philippi. Mr. Yeager was the last surviving member of a group of local businessmen, known as the Belington Industries, Inc. who purchased and developed the property which is now the Belington Industrial Park. He served as president of Masketeers, Inc. and as secretary of Bel-Bar Wood Products, both Industrial Park businesses in the 1970’s. Mr. Yeager was a life time member of the Laurel Mountain VFW Post 410, and had been a member of the Barbour County Republican Executive Committee for several years and was a Methodist by faith. Known for his quick wit and good humor, he will be remembered most for the loving care he gave his wife, Betty, who battled multiple sclerosis for over 40 years. Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Monday June 17, 2019 from 5 - 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday June 18, 2019 from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Judith Flynn officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington where full military rites will be accorded by the United States Navy and the American Legion Post #96 of Belington.
