Read More	GAR Squire Grissom (December 17, 1844 - February 25, 1924) Squire Grissom, Veteran Answers Final Summons Squire Grissom, a resident of Schuyler for the past 25 years passed away at his home in West Schuyler at 8 o'clock Monday morning. Mr. Grissom had been in ill health for the past several months having been afflicted with arterial sclerosis and valvular heart trouble. His death was quite sudden and quite unexpected to the members of his family. He had been confined to his home for some time and was able to be up and around the house only part of the time. The funeral service was held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at the church in use by the Congregation of the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. C. Fausnaugh, Pastor, officiating. The sympathy of friends found tender expressions in numerous and beautiful floral offerings. The services were attended by a number of the friends of the deceased who had come to know and highly respect and honor him in life. The burial service was in charge of the local post of the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic). The pallbearers were members of the Legion Post of this city. The brief impressive G.A.R. burial service was read, after which the firing squad fired a tribute and the burial service concluded with the sounding of taps, in evidence of full military honors in the burial service. Interment was made in the Schuyler cemetery where rests the remains of a daughter, Miss Luda Grissom, who passed away March 28, 1916. Squire Grissom was born at Springfield, Illinois on December 17, 1844 and passed away at Schuyler, Nebraska on February 25, 1924 at age of 79 years,2 months and 8 days His boyhood day was spent in the city of his birth. When a young man he moved to Wayne County, Iowa and engaged in farming. While a resident of Iowa, Mr. Grissom answered the call of his country and enlisted in the 46th Iowa Infantry on June 1, 1864. He continued in the service until close of Civil War and afterwards became a resident of Iconium, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Miss Ollie Hawthorne at Ft. Scott, Kansas December 15, 1887. In 1888, Mr. and Mrs. Grissom moved to Calhoun, Missouri, where they resided until 1899 when they moved to Schuyler to reside. The remaining years of Mr. Grissom's life was spent in this city. The surviving relatives are the widow, one son, Edgar of Ft. Morgan, Colorado and two daughters, Mrs. Opal McKean of Schuyler and Mrs. William T. Hughes of Colfax County. Mr. Grissom was a member of Sedgwick Post #1 G.A.R. at Kearney, Nebraska.
