Marcella Catherine Ann Tramp was born on November 12, 1918, to Frank and Anna (Wittee) Tramp on the family farm near Crofton, Nebraska. She was the youngest of 11 children. She attended Beaver Creek School a mile from the farm. As a child she loved nature and horseback riding which was often her Sunday afternoon recreation. She also enjoyed watching her brothers play ball on the Tramp ball team or joining in the family band since music was an important part of her family life. She attended Crofton High School for two years and then completed her high school education at Mount Marty High School in Yankton. She entered Sacred Heart Monastery on August 25, 1938, and was invested as a novice the following year receiving the name, Audrey. She made her first monastic profession in 1940 and her final profession in 1943. S. Audrey’s ministry included many years in education as a teacher, then guidance counselor, at the elementary and secondary levels in South Dakota and Nebraska. She served as academic advisor at Mount Marty College followed by many years of administrative ministry in Omaha at the archdiocesan office, United Catholic Social Services, and then at Creighton University. S. Audrey enjoyed many hobbies, loved to travel with family and friends, and reached out to many elderly friends, especially in Omaha, helping them with shopping and taking them to church. She was also a Hospice volunteer, and assisted the Omaha Community Playhouse in a variety of ways. She was a woman with a ready smile and a deep love of family and friends. S. Audrey is survived by her Benedictine community and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents and all her siblings preceded her in death. Yankton Press & Dakotan
