Description	:	Sister Christina Schweitzer, 86, died Monday (June 9, 2003) at the Sacred Heart Monastery Care Center, Yankton. Mass of Resurrection is 2 p.m. today (Thursday), in the Bishop Marty Chapel. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. She was born July 16, 1916, in Hingham, Mont., to John J. and Clara (Thomas) Schweitzer. She considered Timber Lake her home after her parents moved there when she was six. She attended elementary country school at Long Butte. She entered Sacred Heart Monastery on June 29, 1938, and made monastic profession two years later. In later years she earned her G.E.D. while ministering in Canon City, Colo. She was certified by the American Dietetic Association as a dietetic supervisor. Sister Christina's first ministry assignment was five years in the monastery embroidery department, after which she worked as laundress and cook in hospitals in Gregory and Tyndall, and Lincoln, Neb.; and schools in Chamberlain and Stephan; Richardton, Fort Yates and Selfridge, N.D.; and York, Neb., for 19 years. From 1960 to 1990 she was food supervisor and dietary assistant at St. Thomas More Hospital and Progressive Care Center in Canon City, Colo. Ill health necessitated her retirement to the monastery in 1990, where she assisted in vegetable and fruit preparation for the next several years. She was an avid cribbage and card player. In addition to her monastic community, she is survived by three sisters: Anna Ball and Frances Ice, both of Emporia, Kan.; and Clara Perman, Mobridge; and several nieces and nephews.
