Sister Clementine, who was a teacher in the Mallard Catholic school, became seriously ill with pneumonia last Friday. Although never very strong, she bad been in apparent good health up to that time. She was brought immediately to the Carroll hospital by the Gregory ambulance, but due to a weakened condition and complications, passed away Thursday morning. Sister M Clementine, the former Anna Martin, was born at St. Lucas, Ia. on April 3, 1869, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Martin. She spent her early girlhood with her parents on their farm and at an early age expressed a desire to enter the convent. In the year 1887, at the age of 18 years, she went to St Rose Convent at Lacrosse, Wis., and entered as a postulant. Following her noviate she went out on mission to various parts of eastern Iowa teaching for some time at New Vienna, IA. Around the year 1904 or 1905 she was appointed as teacher in the lower grades at St. Bernard school at Breda, Ia. She taught there for many years and later was transferred to St. Marys school at Willey, Ia. About two years ago she was again transferred, this time taking up her mission at the town of Mallard where she was teaching until her recent illness. She is survived by two sisters, Sister M. Melania of Stratford, Wis, and Mrs. John Kuennen of St. Lucas, IA. A brother, Carl Martin also of St. Lucas survives. Two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kramer of Maple River, and Mrs. Catherine Meyers of St. Lucas, Ia. preceded her in death. Mrs. Kramer dying on July 31, 1930, and Mrs. Meyers, who died in March, 1907. There are several nieces and nephews living in this locality surviving Sister Clementine. They are: Mrs. Anna Schrad of Auburn, Joe Meyer of West Side, Nick and Ben Kramer of Maple River, Mrs. Joe Grossman, Mrs. Mary Feld, Mrs. Anna Huelsing, Mrs. Theresa Wiederin, and Mrs. Leo Wiedemeyer, all of Carroll. Sister M. Melania of Stratford, Wis., and Sister M. ?????, a niece of Muscatine, are here to attend the funeral services. Other relatives from St Lucas are expected to attend the services Monday.
