Description	:	Sister Fortunata Bichler, 95, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in Sacred Heart Monastery's St. Joseph Healthcare Center, where she had resided since 1996. Anna Marie Bichler was born Sept. 8, 1905, to Joseph and Anna Marie (Burgard) Bichler in Strasburg, N.D., the thirteenth of 15 children. Her elementary education was completed at St. Benedict's parish school in Strasburg, taught by the Ursuline Sisters. Anna Marie Bichler was born Sept. 8, 1905, to Joseph and Anna Marie (Burgard) Bichler in Strasburg, N.D., the thirteenth of 15 children. Her elementary education was completed at St. Benedict's parish school in Strasburg, taught by the Ursuline Sisters. After entering Sacred Heart Convent on her 20th birthday she attended Mount Marty Academy. She made monastic profession on Aug. 21, 1929, and received the name of Sister Fortunata. Her entire ministry was spent in domestic work where her humor, personality and culinary skills endeared her to her religious community, students, patients, priests and bishops. She served in parish schools and convents in Kranzburg, Zell, Tabor, Glen Ullin, N.D., and York, Neb. Hospitals where she served include those in Gregory; Yankton; Pierre; Tyndall; and Cannon City, Colo. She also was in charge of the food service at the motherhouse, at Mount Marty College and for the Sacred Heart Fathers in Hales Corners, Wisc. She will long be remembered for her lengthy tenure of 24 years at the bishops' residences in Sioux Falls and Bismark, N.D., and her long-lasting friendship with the bishops she served: William O. Brady, Lambert Hoch and Paul Dudley. She retired to the motherhouse in 1990 and assisted with the healthcare center laundry until ill health made it impossible for her to continue. Special highlights of her life were a golden jubilee gift trip to Rome, Venice, Florence and Munich in 1975, and a diamond jubilee gift trip to the Holy Land in 1989. In addition to her community of Benedictine Sisters, Sister Fortunata is survived by two sisters, and several nieces and nephews. Obituary - Kostel Funeral Home
