A Wake Service will be held on Tuesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 19 in Bishop Marty Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the monastery cemetery. Irma Agatha Kaiser was born July 5, 1919 near Hoven, SD to Ben and Lorena (Duenwald) Kaiser. She was second oldest of nine children. Irma attended St. Anthony School in Hoven and high school at Polo, Lebanon, and Mount Marty High School in Yankton where she graduated in 1938. She entered Sacred Heart Monastery in July, 1937. She was invested as a novice in June, 1938 and received the name, Laurina. The following June she made her first profession and her final profession in 1942. Sister Laurina's ministry was in the field of education which included twelve years as an elementary teacher, and then 51 years at Mount Marty College. She was among the first class to earn a bachelor's degree at Mount Marty College in 1951 and went on to earn an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Elementary Education at the Catholic University of America in 1953 and 1955 respectively. At Mount Marty College she served as head of the Teacher Education Department, Director of Special Programs including Elderhostel, Director of Alumni and most recently as college archivist. Sister Laurina served on the Board of Trustees of Avera Sacred Heart Hospital and Mount Marty College. She also served on the Monastery Council and several monastery committees. She is survived by her Benedictine community; one sister: Loretta Ness, Rapid City, and three brothers: Gilbert (Alice), and Otto (Mary Jo) of Edina, MN, and Dakota (Dan) of New York City. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Alcuin, Ernie and Joseph, and an infant sister, Gertrude.
