Leona Stoltz was born September 5, 1913, to Mary (Wethor) and Seth Stoltz at Emery, SD. She graduated from Emery High School in 1931 and Notre Dame Jr. College in 1938 with a Teaching Certificate. Leona Stoltz was born September 5, 1913, to Mary (Wethor) and Seth Stoltz at Emery, SD. She graduated from Emery High School in 1931 and Notre Dame Jr. College in 1938 with a Teaching Certificate. She taught in a rural school (1934-1937); in Alexandria (1938-1942) and McIntosh, SD (1942-1943). She entered Presentation Convent September 8, 1943 and made her first profession of vows on August 10, 1946. Sister Loretta received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Northern State University in 1953 and a Master's Degree in Education from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI in 1965. Sister Loretta taught in many of the diocesan schools in South Dakota (1945-1993) as well as Anoka, MN, and Bowie, MD (1962-1965). She also served as school principal from 1958-1981. She retired in 1993 and resided at Presentation Convent until 1999 in ministry of prayer and visiting. She has been a resident at Mother Joseph Manor from 1999 until her death. She will be remembered for her gentle demeanor and as a great storyteller. Sister Loretta is survived by her community of Presentation Sisters and two sisters, Viola Mohr, Mitchell, SD and Sister Dominic who is in Aberdeen. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Frowin Stoltz. The Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Loretta will be Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 11:00 a.m., in Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Presentation Convent, Aberdeen, SD. A Scriptural Wake service will be Wednesday, November 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Reverend Michael Kelly, will be celebrant and homilist. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery with Spitzer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Members of the Aberdeen Knights of Columbus will served as casket bearers.
