Description	:	Sister Lorraine Weires OSB, 65, died January 24, 2006, in the Monastery Care Center following a several year battle with cancer. A wake service will be held Wednesday, January 25 at 7:30 p.m., and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 26 in Bishop Marty Memorial Chapel, Yankton. Interment will be in the monastery cemetery. Mary Catherine Weires was born January 26, 1940, to John and Marie (Altman) Weires of White Lake, SD. She was the sixth of seven children in the family. Mary attended White Lake Public Schools and graduated from White Lake High School in 1958. She attended Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD for two years and completed her BA degree at Mount Marty College, Yankton, in 1963. She later completed a master's degrees in Christian Spirituality at Creighton University in Omaha. Mary entered Sacred Heart Monastery on August 27, 1963. On June 24, 1964, she received her religious name, Lorraine, and began her novitiate. She made first profession in 1965 and final profession in 1969. S. Lorraine taught elementary students in Yankton, Vermillion, and Sioux Falls, SD and York, NE. She also served as principal at St. Lambert's School in Sioux Falls, and at St. Joseph's School in York. She then ministered as DRE and Youth Minister at Christ the King Parish in Sioux Falls followed by DRE and RCIA coordinator at Sacred Heart Parish in Aberdeen. Prior to her illness, she was on the staff of the monastery retreat center. S. Lorraine served on the monastery council, numerous monastery committees, and on the Mount Marty College Board of Trustees. S. Lorraine is survived by her Benedictine community; brother, Donald (Laura), Platte, SD, and sisters: Nora (Larry) Volz, Overland Park, KS, and Jeanne (Ken) Isaak, Gold Canyon, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Elmer; and sisters: Veronica and Evelyn. Memorials may be directed to the Mount Marty College Scholarship Fund. Yankton Press & Dakotan
