Rosina Brickner was born Dec. 4, 1909, at Strasburg, N.D., to Romanus and Regina (Keller) Brickner. She attended the parochial school in her home town for eight years and at the age of 17 entered Sacred Heart Monastery as an aspirant. After completing high school at Mount Marty Academy she made monastic profession as S. Narcissia Aug. 22, 1930. Although missioned to Glen Ullin, N.D., in the fall of 1930 to "help out" in the parochial school there, her teaching ministry extended to 21 years of "helping out" in parish schools also in Richardton, N.D., Yankton, Dimock and Aberdeen. Not having a teaching certificate, she passed the North Dakota teaching examination on the first taking, had it renewed once, and then also had to take the South Dakota teaching examination when she came to Yankton. During those same years she taught religious vacation schools in several parishes, and also attended summer school classes at Mount Marty. In 1951, she was assigned to Sacred Heart Hospital as bookkeeper and for the next 43 years she held that position, and subsequently served as supervisor of the business office and supervisor of Medicare and Blue Cross/Blue Shield group insurance. She retired to the residence in the monastery care center in 1994. She is survived by her monastic family of Benedictine Sisters, one sister, Mary Engle, Tacoma, Wash.; four brothers: Peter, Eugene, Edward and Pius, all of Spokane, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and six brothers.
