Malvin J. Robertson, 22, is reported missing in action since July 6. He was a top gunner on a flying fortress in the southwest Pacific. A son of tile late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Robertson, he graduated from Central in 1839. He enlisted in the air corps last April and has been stationed at Keesler field, Miss.; Clovis, N. M. and Topeka, Kan. He was home on furlough last March for six days. The last letter received from him since he has been in the southwest Pacific was June 28. Brothers and sisters in Lonaconing are Henry D. Robertson, John R. Robertson, Mrs. Evelyn Brown and Mrs. Elizabeth Lupis. A brother, William A. Robertson, lives in Baltimore. Cumberland Evening Times Thursday, January 24, 1946 Lonaconing Yank Declared Dead Staff Sgt. Malvin J. Robertson Had Been Missing Since July 6, 1943 ========================================================== Missing in action since July 6, 1943, Staff Sgt. Malvin J. Robertson has been declared dead by the War Department in a message to his sister, Mrs. Evelyn Brown of Lonaconing. The message stated that Staff Sgt. Robertson failed to return from an aerial combat mission over Bougainville. He served as a top gunner on a Flying Fortress. A graduate of Central High School in 1939. Staff Sgt. Robertson enlisted in the Air Corps in April 1942. He was trained at Keesler Field Miss: Clovis N.M: and Topeka, Kan. He is survived by another sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Lupis of Lonaconing: and three brothers, John and William Robertson, also of Lonaconing and Henry D. Robertson S. 2-c, stationed at Norfolk, Va. ----------------------------------------------- Malvin was his birth name. Somehow upon entering the Army Air Corps it was changed to Melvin. There is a picture of him in the newspaper with this article.
