Stanley was born October 28, 1952 in Billings, MT to Clark Russell Cooney and Mae Hayes Cooney as one of nine children. Cooney, 64, of Billings, MT went to his heavenly Father late on Monday, October 31, 2016. Stanley was born October 28, 1952 in Billings, MT to Clark Russell Cooney and Mae Hayes Cooney as one of nine children. He was the first born of twins, his brother Stephen being born 10 minutes later. He never let Stephen forget that he was the older of the two. Stan grew up in Joliet and was an A student. He spent his senior year of high school at Billings Senior High and graduated in 1970. He attended Eastern Montana College for two years where he earned a listing on the Dean’s List. Being one of the ‘60s generation, he enjoyed Led Zepplin, Bob Dylan, and Beethoven! Stanley was a life-long student and read diverse genres: history, government, documentaries and biographies. An avid collector of videos, he donated in excess of 500 videos to the Eagle Cliff Manor movie library. Stan loved going to the Mustang baseball games and looked forward to the opening season game of the Arizona Diamondbacks which he attended with Jerry, Lori and Nancy 3 years in a row. Stan also liked to watch baseball, football, and basketball on TV. He enjoyed riding his bike when weather permitted and going for a beer once in a while with brother Stephen. Stanley studied the life of Christ throughout his years and trusted in Jesus, his Lord and Saviour. He had many books and videos which he watched many times. His faith never waivered and he looked forward to going to his heavenly home. His favorite saying was “Praise the Lord….” Stanley was a gentle man and very much liked by people whose paths he crossed during his 64 years. He is survived by sister, Carolyn Sue Bratlie, Billings; sister Nancy C. Zier, Sun Lakes, AZ; brother, Jerry E. (Lori) Cooney; and twin brother, Stephen L. Cooney of Fort Benton, MT. Stanley is also survived by 7 nieces and 6 nephews. Brothers Thomas Russell Cooney, Theodore D. Cooney, Clinton J. Cooney and sister Sheryl L. Pratt pre-deceased Stanley. Stanley has left a large blank space in our lives and the lives of those he touched with his gentle spirit and he will be sorely missed. His message to those he leaves behind is John 8:32 “and you will know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” Funeral service 1 p.m. Thursday, November 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 537 Grand Avenue. Interment will follow at the Rockvale Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to services only. Condolences may be shared with the family by visiting smithfuneralchapels.com
