Description	:	Stanley Franzen, of Mason City, formerly of Cresco and Protivin, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa. He was 78 years of age. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2010 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin with burial in the church cemetery. Stanley Baptist Franzen was born on November 11, 1932 at Auburn, Fayette County, Iowa, the son of Leo and Clara (Panos) Franzen. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA. Stan also graduated from St. Luke's High School with the Class of 1951. On February 15, 1954, Stanley was united in marriage to Wilma Bruess at St. Luke's Church in St. Lucas. They became the parents of 8 children, Carol, Carole, Ruth, Ron, Mary Ann, Janet, Wayne and Cheryl. Wilma died on November 10, 1978. Stanley then married Alma Hemesath on July 12, 1980 and they later divorced. Stanley farmed in the Protivin and Lime Springs area, and in 1970 purchased the farm by Schley. He was actively engaged in farming until 1991. Stanley later sold his farm and moved into Cresco in the fall of 1992. In the fall of 2004, he sold his house in Cresco and moved to Protivin. In 2005 he moved to Howard Residential Care and then due to declining health and partial leg amputation, he became a resident of the Good Shepherd Health Center in the spring of 2008. Stanley then had a short stay at Mercy Hospital in Mason City where he received very good care and at the time of his death was moved to Hospice of North Iowa. Stanley's hobbies included RACING, fishing, camping, the card club and social activities with family and friends. In later years, Stanley greatly enjoyed getting together with his "coffee group" at Hardee's discussing the local and world events. If we need to get a hold of Staley we could always call him at Hardee's Stanley served on the ASCS and REC Board of Directors for many years. He served on the Holy Cross Parish Council in Schley and beside farming he also was a DeKalb Seed Dealer. Stan is survived by his children and their families: Carole Bolchen and daughter Kristen Franzen of Arvada, CO; Ruth and Kevin Hart and daughter Rachel of Mason City, IA; Ron and Rynonda Franzen and sons: Michael and Sam of Protivin, IA; Janet and Steven Ryberg and sons, Michael, Adam and Dustin of Mauston, WI; Wayne and Kenda Franzen and daughters: Lindsi, Sara, and Rebecca of Calmar, IA; and Cheryl Franzen. Also surviving are one sister: Leona (Francis) O'Regan of Waukon, IA; two brothers: Kenneth (Mary Jane) Franzen of Apple Valley, MN and Donald (Elsa) Franzen of Haines City, FL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wilma, two infant daughters: Carol Ann and Mary Ann; two infant brothers: Norbert and Dennis; and several brothers and sisters in law.
