The pallbearers were Messrs Burt, Kent and Clayton McDermott, Ray and Edward Parrish and Verne Herrick all of Bridgewater. Interment was made in the Orient cemetery near Orient, Iowa. Stanley Eugene Showers, son of Helen Wixon and Charlie Showers was born near Prescott, Iowa, August 29, 1876, and passed away at the Saint Joseph's hospital at Omaha, Nebraska, January 18, 1944, at the age of 67 years, 4 months and 20 days. He grew to young manhood in the vicinity of Creston, Iowa, receiving his elementary education in the rural schools of Adams and Union counties. On May 10, 1897, he was united in marriage to Ora Westervelt, and to this union were born four children, three daughters and one son. The early years of his adult life were spent on a farm, and in 1912 he moved to Kent, Iowa, where he became a manager of a grain and implement business. Early in 1915 he moved to Bridgewater where he managed the Coffey and Irwin Implement Store. In 1917 he became a traveling representative for an oil company. For the last twenty years, he has represented the firm of Henry and Robinson at Omaha, Nebraska, traveling in eastern Colorado and western Nebraska, making his home at Sidney, Nebraska. Last May his health made it impossible for him to continue his work, and since that time he has resided with his daughter, Mrs. Don Parrish of Bridgewater. Mr. Showers came in contact with many people in connection with his work, and because of his genial personality and interest in people, was greeted as a friend rather than a business acquaintance by those he called on. It was said of him that he left not an enemy on his entire territory throughout his services of twenty years. He associated with the Methodist church while in Iowa. After moving to Sidney, Nebraska, he attended the Presbyterian church. While there he took an active part in anything which he felt was for the betterment of the community. Mr. Showers was preceded in death by his wife who passed away January 12, 1944, just six days before he was called. Those surviving the deceased are four children: Helen Showers of Rocky Ford, Colorado; Floyd Showers of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mrs. Don Parrish of Bridgewater, Iowa; and Elsie Showers, of Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren: Dewayne, LeRoy, Arlin and Marilyn Showers of Council Bluffs, Iowa; also two sisters, Mrs. C. E. Wallace of Greenfield Iowa, and Mrs. Enos Mundell of Osceola, Iowa; and four brothers, Arvid and George of Creston; Melvin of Cromwell and Tom of Greenfield. His parents, three brothers, and one sister, preceded him in death.
