He was born Jan. 6, 1928 in Williamsburg, ME, the son of Elroy and Nellie (Larson) McCafferty. Stanley was a US Navy veteran serving during WWII and Korea with the Seabees. He resided most of his life in Mattawamkeag and worked for Great Northern Paper Co for 35 years retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lion’s Club and served as a Mattawamkeag town selectman. During their retirement years, Stanley and Helen travelled extensively residing for a time in Florida and Arizona. Surviving in addition to his wife of 65 years of Bangor are three children, Linda Pine and her husband, Allan of Titusville, FL, Mark McCafferty and his wife, Gail of Bangor and Karen Thibodeau and her husband, Randy of Old Town; five grandchildren, Daniel Pine of Vermont, Kristy Palermo of Florida, Kerri McCafferty of Waterville, Chad McCafferty of Bangor and Katie Thibodeau of Cumberland; two great grandchildren, Marcus Palermo and Cayden McCafferty; one sister, Doris Bearce of Waterville; two half siblings, Myrna and Kenneth. He was predeceased by his parents, stepmother, Anna McCafferty and two brothers, Alfred and Ivan McCafferty. Stanley’s family gratefully thanks the staff of the Maine Veterans Home for their excellent care. A chapel service with military honors will be held at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Maine Veterans Home, Activities Fund, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401.
