Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kevin M. Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with a military honor flag presentation conducted by Paul Jackson. Visitation with the family present will be 7 to 9 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Mr. Osterholt was born Oct. 31, 1924, in Ashton, Iowa, the son of Ferdinand and Helen C. (Poss) Osterholt. He graduated from Ashton High School and attended Morningside College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the First Infantry Division "Big Red One." He was stationed in North Africa, Sicily and England. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was later wounded and served six months in a German Prisoner of War Hospital. His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart Medal. Following his discharge, he moved to Sioux City. He married Eva L. Bouvia on April 15, 1948, in Salix, Iowa. He was employed with Blackstone Hardware in Leeds, then ran a pop route for Sioux City Bottling. He was then employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 1983. His wife died March 2, 2001, in Sioux City. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Society of the First Infantry Division and Ex-Prisoners of War. Survivors include a son and his wife, Dennis and Loretta of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Karen and Steve Strain of Kingman, Ariz., and Julie and John Boston of Sioux City; three brothers and their wives, Howard and Betty of Dakota City, Edward and Connie, and Alan and Jackie, all of Sioux City; two sisters, Grace and her husband, Art Hawkins, and Joyce Nelson, all of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Scott Crum, Brandon and Darren Strain, Michael Osterholt, Melissa Bocian, Jessie Holmes and David and Holly Boston; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roger and Glen; and a sister, Barbara Ricker. Sioux City Journal
