Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at Colfax Cemetery. The son of Irving and Elsie (Berst) Smith, Stanley was born on June 28, 1931, in Charles City, Iowa. The family relocated to Colfax and Stanley met and later married Barbara Ann Maxwell on July 4, 1953, at the Catholic Church in Colfax. Prior to his marriage Stanley was a member of the Iowa National Guard from 1951 - 1953. After his marriage he joined the regular Army from 1953 - 1955. He and Barbara moved back to Colfax following his time in the service. Stanley was a member of the J.C.'s, the UAW Local #997 and the Knight's of Columbus. He also coached little League for several years. He retired from the Maytag Company after 34 years of service. He loved to fish and go camping. As a hobby, he built clocks. Those left to honor his memory include his children, Cathy (Jon) Davis of Newton, Bryon (Diana) Smith of Colfax, and Kim Smith of Newton; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren, a sister, Ellen (David) Lovell, a sister-in-law, Nancy (Ron) Bruxvoort of Colfax and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, Barbara in 2002 and brothers, Gene and Alfred.
