He continued employment... Read More	Wenatchee World - Tuesday, January 11, 2011 Stanley J. Darwood, 79, a lifelong resident of the Methow Valley, died suddenly at his winter home in Yuma, AZ. Stan was born March 12, 1931, at Carlton, the son of Stan and Edna (Fender) Darwood. He attended schools at Carlton, Beaver Creek and Twisp, where he graduated from high school. His first job was at the Squaw Creek Mill and then at the U.S. Forest Service for one year. He then was employed at Wanger Mill, where he always said it was because they paid him five cents an hour. He continued employment there, through the process of changing ownerships to Bile Coleman and then Crown Zellerbach, until it closed down. He had been employed there for 36 years. On May 29, 1958, he was married to Evelyn Morton and together they built their home at Beaver Creek, where they raised their family. Stanley finished his working career at Allen Elementary School, where he was employed until retirement in 1981. Following retirement, Stan and Evelyn spent the last 25 winters in Yuma, AZ. Stan enjoyed square dancing, raising a big garden, fishing and camping. He took great pride in his yard and flowers. He had great love for his grandchildren and they were a very important part of his life. He had the ability to repair or fix anything. Even his neighbors in Yuma always knew they could count on him to help. His children knew he was always there for them and willing to help with whatever they needed. He enjoyed helping his son haul horses for his outfitting business. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Steve, of Carlton; Darralyn, of Hayden, Idaho; Melinda Bourn, of Winthrop; Chrissy, of Henderson, NV; 11 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a brother, Bud, of Omak. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Leatha Scott and Effie Kerchenko; and two brothers, Don and Jerry Darwood. A Tribute Service will take place Saturday, January 15, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Methow Valley United Methodist Church, with Pastor Steve Schroeder officiating. Interment will follow at Beaver Creek Cemetery, Twisp. Services are under direction of Barnes Chapel, Brewster.
