Description	:	Stanley Shaw, 83, of Bridgeport, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1996, in the Okanogan-Douglas Hospital at Brewster. Mr. Shaw was born June 8, 1913, the son of Edward G. and Ellen J. (Whiteside) Shaw at Orchard Prairie, eight miles east of Hillyard, Wash. When he was 3, the family moved to Vera in the Spokane Valley, now known as Veradale, and at the age 6 he moved with his family to Greenacres, where he received his education through the eighth grade. Read More	Stanley Shaw, 83, of Bridgeport, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1996, in the Okanogan-Douglas Hospital at Brewster. Mr. Shaw was born June 8, 1913, the son of Edward G. and Ellen J. (Whiteside) Shaw at Orchard Prairie, eight miles east of Hillyard, Wash. When he was 3, the family moved to Vera in the Spokane Valley, now known as Veradale, and at the age 6 he moved with his family to Greenacres, where he received his education through the eighth grade. He then attended a private school for 31 years of high school. The Great Depression hit and he quit school to go to work at odd jobs. Then fortune came and a good friend had him go into partnership in a grocery store after which he sold his half interest in the store and moved to Bridgeport where he went to work for Charley Washburn. On April 16, 1942, he married Beattie Bolton at Spokane. They lived in Spokane, where he owned and operated a grocery store. They sold the store and moved to Los Angeles and he then finished his education in Van Nuys, Calif. He became a contractor, building houses in Woodland Hills, Calif., eventually going back to the grocery business working in a supermarket becoming the manager in a short time. They moved to Bridgeport in 1961, where he worked remodeling homes. Mr. Shaw sold insurance and bought the Caldwell Agency which he operated until he retired. Mr. Shaw was a member of the Puritan Chapter No. 144 OES and a past patron, a past master of the Columbia Lodge No. 193. He served on the Bridgeport City Council when the new city hall was built. He attended the Bridgeport United Methodist Church and served as a board member. He is survived by his wife, Beattie, at the home in Bridgeport; a brother, Wilfred Shaw, of Bridgeport; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Services are under the direction of Barnes Chapel, Brewster.
