Mr. Rodenbough was born in Bloomfield, New Jersey to Stanley Leigh Rodenbough, Jr and Katherine Boone on August 13, 1924. The family lived in several places in the northeast before moving to High Point, NC where he graduated from High Point Central in 1943. He was active in the debating team, track and sea scouts as well serving as the drum major. In that same year, Mr. Rodenbough was accepted into the Navy’s V-12 accelerated officer training program and completed his training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Asbury Park, NJ, and Columbia University. He graduated as an Ensign in 1945 and took his first assignment aboard the USS Ellyson as the war ended. His tour ended in 1947, and he returned to law school at the University of North Carolina. He remained in the Naval Reserve twenty years, becoming a Lt. Cmdr. Mr. Rodenbough was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1950 and after a short stay with a law firm in Winston Salem, he hung out his shingle in Danbury, NC. In 1956 he moved his office to Madison, NC where he practiced law for more than 45 years. Mr. Rodenbough was married to Eliza Pescud Hanes of Pine Hall, NC, daughter of Eliza Chisman and Dr. John Hanes, in 1954. He served on many civic committees, including Madison Rotary Club of which he was President in 1963, the Madison Housing Authority which he helped form and where he served as Chairman, and the Rockingham County Bar Association of which he was President in 1990. Devoted to the youth in his community, Mr. Rodenbough served as Cub Scout Pack Master where he started Madison’s first Webelo troop, and later as the Sea Scout Master. He was active in Madison Presbyterian Church, where he served two terms as Elder and taught Sunday School for youth and adults. At the time of his death he was an Elder and member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. Upon his retirement from the practice of law, Mr. Rodenbough was able to resume his lifelong interest in art and transition into an active career as an artist. His work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the southeast. He excelled at landscapes and seascapes, where he developed a passion for light and clouds. Mr. Rodenbough was preceded in death by his wife and his son, Edwin Hanes Rodenbough.
