Description	:	Stan "Sparky" R. Johnson Stanley "Sparky" Johnson, 86, formerly of Coralville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 27th, 2014 at Parkview Manor in Wellman, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2014 at Lensing's Oak Hill (210 Holiday Road, Coralville). Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Stan was born March 28, 1928, the son of Victor and Alice Johnson. He was born in Albert City, Iowa, and grew up there with his two older sisters, Eloise and Eunice. After high school, he attended college and graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in Business Commerce in 1950. On August 12, 1949, he married Joan Marie Hess of Iowa City. They were married at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Following graduation, they moved to Wesley, Iowa, where Stan took a job with the Exchange State Bank. The family later moved to Britt, Iowa, where he continued his banking career. Early in his career he worked as a bank loan officer and highlighted stories of attempting to help farmers and small business owners remain solvent. He eventually became bank vice president in Cold Spring, Minnesota, before relocating back to Iowa City, and working at the Solon State Bank. Later in life, he furthered his interest in law and business by obtaining a paralegal degree. Stan was known for his ability to listen, and offer relevant but sage advice. He enjoyed being friends with a wide range of individuals from all age groups and walks of life. He was always ready to help and talk to anyone that needed encouragement and understanding. Stan enjoyed many family activities including picnics, camping and fishing, as well as playing cards and traveling to visit family in the great Northwest. He was also a big sports fan, following his beloved “Cubbies,” Vikings and Hawkeyes. His wife of 54 years, Joan Marie Johnson, preceded him in death. Together they had seven children, who all survive: David Johnson and his wife Ann of Port Angeles, Washington; Steve Johnson of Davenport, Iowa; Mark Johnson of Iowa City, Iowa; Jill Carroll of Coralville, Iowa; Greg Johnson and his wife Carol of Marion, Iowa; Ron Johnson of Overland Park, Kansas; and Mike Johnson of Evansdale, Iowa. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His wife, parents and two sisters preceded him in death.
