Description	:	Stanley Vern Mercer, 63, 422 8th Ave., died Monday in his home following a short illness. He was born Dec. 18, 1909, in Pony, Montana. The family moved to Helena in 1915, and he attended Helena schools and graduated from Helena High School. He was employed with his father in the Home Creamery. He then operated Stan's Standard Service for several years until being employed with the L.P. Barney Const. Co. and Helena Sand and Gravel. He retired about six years ago due to ill health. He was born Dec. 18, 1909, in Pony, Montana. The family moved to Helena in 1915, and he attended Helena schools and graduated from Helena High School. He was employed with his father in the Home Creamery. He then operated Stan's Standard Service for several years until being employed with the L.P. Barney Const. Co. and Helena Sand and Gravel. He retired about six years ago due to ill health. Mercer married Faun Berge Sept. 19, 1931, in Helena. She died in 1956. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a past commander of the American Legion 40 and 8, and served as commodore at the Gates of the Mountains Boat Club for years. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Mabel Mercer; one daughter, Marlene Conner; one son, Ron, all of Helena; five granddaughters and several cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Retz Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Luebeck officiating. Burial will be in Forestvale Cemetery.
