Read More	Starling DeWain Brandenburg was born in Union County, Indiana, November 5, 1840, and passed away at his home in Bronson, Kans., October 16, 1925. These two dates only give the beginning and the end of a busy and useful life. He was married to Miss Nancy Helms of Wayne County, Indiana, January 1, 1862. To this union were born two sons and three daughters, M. F. Brandenburg of Allen County, Kans., Tellie Brandenburg, who died in young manhood, Mrs. John Tillery of Bronson, Kans., Mrs. Roy Moore of Parsons, Kans., and Mrs. Raymond Harlan of Bronson, Kans. He also leaves to mourn his loss sixteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Mr. Brandenburg removed from Indiana to Kansas in October 1872. The writer became acquainted with the family in the autumn of 1876, and has known them intimately until the present time. They were pioneers of Eastern Allen County, and it was not always smooth sailing for him. They went through trying times of the early seventies when the community was almost devastated with drought, chinch bugs, and grasshoppers. Through these trying times the Brandenburgs never lost faith in Kansas nor ceased their efforts to improve their farm and accumulate a competency for their declining years. During all the years I have known Mr. Brandenburg, I never knew guilty of any act that could be considered as unkind of dishonest. He was always known as a good neighbor and his friends were all who knew him. His health began falling about two years ago and he disposed of his farm and moved in Bronson to end his days. For several months he realized that he was nearing the end and made preparation accordingly. Several months ago he made his last will and testament disposing of quite an estate. About a month ago he sent for the writer and asked him to write his obituary. Soon afterward he engaged Rev. G. W. Skinner of Elsmore to preach his funeral. The evening before he passed away he bade his wife an affectionate farewell assuring her that would be his last night with her. The end came the next morning at nine o'clock. He closed his eyes in peace with all the world, and at peace with his maker. He did not fear death and he rejoiced that he would soon be at home with his Savior. ----- The funeral for Mr. Brandenburg was held Sunday, October 18, 1925, at 2 o'clock p. m. Although the roads were muddy there was a very large crowd of people in attendance. The M. E. church, the largest church in Bronson, was filled to overflowing. Rev. M. O. Moyer of Bronson read the scripture lesson and offered prayer. Dr. J. S. Cummings read the foregoing obituary. Rev. G. W. Skinner delivered the sermon. Music was furnished by a male quartet composed by Oscar Wright, Lawrence Moore, Walter Wright and R. H. Owens; Mrs. L. S. Wright at the piano. All the living children, several grandchildren, and a few great grandchildren were present. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers and four granddaughters acted as flower bearers.
