Description	:	Stephen Bruce “Steve” Nelson, 76 years of age, of rural Loomis, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. Steve was born January 3, 1943 at Holdrege, the second of five children born to Lester H. and Iris Genevieve (Pettett) Nelson. Read More	Stephen Bruce “Steve” Nelson, 76 years of age, of rural Loomis, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. Steve was born January 3, 1943 at Holdrege, the second of five children born to Lester H. and Iris Genevieve (Pettett) Nelson. He received his education from Loomis Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1960. He then pursued higher education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. On April 7, 1964, Steve enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Hamilton New York. He then served in Wildflecken, Germany and was honorably discharged on March 29, 1966. Steve served in the reserve capacity until 1970. On January 15, 1967, Steve was united in marriage Judy Johnson at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden, NE. This union was blessed with three children: Randy, Bryan, and Stephanie. The family made their home on a farm in rural Loomis. The family engaged in farming, cattle feeding and ranching, with his father and brother, Dean. He was a Campus Life Board Member; Sandstrom Cemetery Board Member; and a life- long member of the Westmark Evangelical Free church, where he served as a trustee and usher. He always enjoyed repairing and fixing anything. After retirement from farming and cattle feeding, he enjoyed restoring classic cars and tractors; and taking road trips in his classic cars. In addition, he enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and Husker Football. Steve was preceded in death by; his parents: Lester and Iris; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Virgil and Bena (Poppinga) Johnson; and a brother-in-law, Tom Parnell. Steve leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Judy Nelson of rural Loomis; his three children: Randy Nelson and his wife, Laura of rural Bertrand, Bryan Nelson of Elwood and Stephanie Nelson of Clay Center, KS; three grandchildren: April, Ethan and Elijah; one brother, Dean Nelson and his wife, Roxine of Holdrege; three sisters: Lynda Johnson of Lincoln; Janice Whitney and her husband, Charles; and Judy Matthies and her husband, John, all of Des Moines, IA; two sisters-in-law: Marcia Lewis and her husband, Bill of Hansville, WA; and Lois Parnell of Hastings; one brother-in-law, Elwood Johnson and his wife, Candy of Seward; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
