Steve then attended the University of Minnesota graduating in 1959 with a degree in Mortuary Science. Steve returned to Columbus to work with his mother at Gass Haney Funeral Home. He became the 4th generation owner of Gass Haney Funeral Home which was founded by Henry Gass, Sr. in 1870. Steve was an integral part of the business and community until his retirement in 2008. On April 9, 1962, Steve was united in marriage to Jeanne Sandahl in Columbus and they celebrated their 48th anniversary this year. Steve was active in the Masonic Lodge, Lebanon Lodge 323 AF & AM, Platte Valley York Rite, Scottish Rite Lincoln, Sesostris Shrine, Pawnee Shrine Club & Motor Club, Elks, Sertoma, OFC, ATA (American Trapshooting Association), and NTA (Nebraska Trapshooting Association). He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Steve was an avid hunter, trap shooter, reader, loved classical music, traveling, and visiting with people. Steve is survived by wife Jeanne Haney of Columbus, NE; daughter Christine (Ron) Prokupek of Columbus, NE; daughter Stephanie Haney of Columbus, NE; son Kevin Haney of Columbus, NE; grandson Adam (Brenda) Davidson of Orange, TX; grandson Aaron (Kimberly) Davidson of Kaneohe, HI; grandson David Keating of Columbus, NE; great-granddaughter Kendra Davidson; sister Patricia (Adrian) Muhle of Schuyler, NE; brother William "Bill" (Starre) Haney of Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law Lori Sandahl of Elysburg, PA; nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by parents William and Marjorie Haney. FUNERAL SERVICE Saturday, November 27th 10:30am at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. VISITATION Friday 3-8pm at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Saturday from 9:30-10:30am at the church with a 10:15am family prayer service. Interment Columbus Cemetery.
