Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com Stephen was born on July 26, 1927 in Dodgeville, Iowa, the son of John and Anna Panther Vorwerk. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Elementary and High School in Muscatine, where he enjoyed playing basketball. He married Caryl Vetter who preceded him in death in 1974. Together they had two children, Mary and Roberta. In 1976, he married Elizabeth Schupp who had two children, Mark and Alicia Schupp. He was a US Navy veteran and served on the USS Admiral W.W. Benson during World War II. He began working for Muscatine Power and Water in 1949, and left to work for Easter Iowa Light and Power Company in 1966. He was promoted to Plant Superintendent of Easter Iowa Light and Power Company Fairstation in 1978 and retired on May 31, 1991. His life was filled with compassion, generosity, and he had a fun loving spirit. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Elizabeth Vorwerk; his children, Mary Beckey and husband, Martin, Mark Schupp, and Alicia Gjertson and husband, Douglas; one son-in-law, Scott Hemesath; his grandchildren, Alicia Hemesath Sheridan and husband, Jonathan, Kathie Hemesath, Sarah Beckey Randleman and husband, Jason, Andrew Beckey, and Marcus Schupp; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Keller Randleman. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Roberta Hemesath; four sisters, Elizabeth Bankhead, Rachel Manjoine, Bea Griffith, and Anna Ziegenhorn, and two brothers, Frank and Danny Vorwerk.
