The McGann Funeral Home, South Bend, is in charge of arrangements. He was born on Aug. 22, 1939, in Cascade, son of Herb and Helen (Kurt) McNally. He married his wife of 36 years, Tamara (Howard) McNally on Sept. 2, 1967. He was a 1962 graduate of St. Ambrose College, Davenport. Upon graduation, he became chairman and teacher of mathematics and physics at Aquin High School in Cascade. He then moved to South Bend, where he earned his master of science degree in mathematics from the University of Notre Dame in 1967. Upon receiving his degree, he stayed in South Bend, where he was an instructor of mathematics at Notre Dame and later at St. Mary's College. During his summer vacations, he worked as a programmer at Carlton Financial in South Bend. In 1973, he joined the University of Notre Dame staff, this time as the manager of the Academic Applications Group in the computer center. After leaving Notre Dame in 1978, he went on to teach mathematics at Marian High School and then at Indiana University in South Bend. He later went back to Notre Dame as an adjunct instructor of COBOL and PL/1 programming. In 1982, he started his own business, McNally Microcomputer, where he supplied training in the use of small computers for business and school personnel. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He was a Little League coach for all four of his boys and numerous others at East Side Little League. Steve enjoyed long bike rides, tutoring students in mathematics and tinkering with computers from the earliest stages of the personal computer revolution. Surviving are his wife, Tamara McNally; four sons, Ted McNally, Judd McNally and Jeb McNally, all of South Bend, and Jake (Leah Coplon) McNally, of Portland, Maine; two grandchildren, Raizel and Oscar, both of Portland; three sisters, Judith Redwine, of Fresno, Calif., Mary Jane (Peter) Sauser, of Monticello, and Marjorie (Joseph) Gehl, of Cascade; and a brother, David (Kay) McNally, of Cascade. The family requests all contributions be given to the Cascade Public Library, 301 First Ave. E., Cascade, Iowa 52033, or the Alzheimer's Association of Northern Indiana.
