He was the oldest of a family of nine children. Out of this large family only one sister, Fanny Taylor, of Paw Paw, Mich., is left to count a few more days before she too will join the innumerable host and complete the family circle on the other shore. Steven M. Glidden lived a long life of 82 years, 10 months and three days – 34 years of this time was spent in Lakeside. A host of old friends, as well as many new ones, will miss the familiar figure, genial face and cheerful greeting always ready for each one as they passed his door. For several years he has had heart trouble from which disease he gradually, almost imperceptibly grew weaker day by day, until last Saturday night the end came soon after retiring for the night. Mr. Glidden's first marriage was May 2, 1859 to Mary J Peabody. From this union were born three children. His second marriage was April 27, 1863, to Harriet L. Root and from this union were born six children. Two daughters, Elmira and Viola survive from the first marriage and from the second; Emory, Asa, Orrie, Hattie and Frank – together with sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren are left to mourn his loss. S. M. Glidden and wife Harriet were among the first to join the Methodist church of Lakeside at its organization from which place the funeral services were held Tuesday p.m. conducted by Rev. J. V. Bennett of Three Oaks. The body was borne by the three sons to its final resting place in the Lakeside cemetery.
