Description	:	Stephen Rardin Rauch, age 81 of Lamoni, Iowa, son of Earl Herbert "Ching" Rauch and Dorothy Mignon (Rardin) Rauch, was born December 17, 1922 in Russell, Iowa and passed away February 15, 2004 at Lamoni Nursing and Rehab Center in Lamoni, Iowa. Rardin was born in Russell. His parents had been visiting in Iowa and were returning to their home in Ridgeway, Missouri. Rardin began his first prank [by] wanting to be born. Rardin was born in Russell. His parents had been visiting in Iowa and were returning to their home in Ridgeway, Missouri. Rardin began his first prank [by] wanting to be born. The train stopped in Russell and his parents got off so Rardin could enter the world. Those pranks continued, as related by the staff at the nursing home, throughout the many years he lived there. Rardin spent his entire life in Lamoni, which he dearly loved. He was loved by many of its citizens. His parents cared for him until their deaths. Rardin has resided in the Lamoni Nursing and Rehab Center since 1982, where he had many friends. Rardin was quite a bird watcher, especially enjoying the wrens around his home. He rode several bicycles many miles all over Lamoni, greeting friends along the way. Rardin enjoyed attending the Lamoni United Methodist Church and the Lamoni Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by both parents. Rardin is survived by cousins Lt. Col. Marion A. Rardin USAFR (Ret.) of Boise. Idaho, and Linda Pallin of Winchester, Massachusetts, aunt Irene Rauch Key of Winchester; other cousins in the local area, caretakers and friends Franklin Main of Peculiar, Missouri, and Richard and Jean Mickelson of Lamoni, and his friends in Lamoni and at the nursing home. As the 23rd Psalm says, "I shall dwell in the House of the Lord "forever," Amen Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at Slade O'Donnell Funeral Home in Lamoni, Iowa with Pastor Scott Kallem officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni.
