Stephen Seward was born in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio, December 26, 1824, where he lived until he was ten years old, when he went with his parents to Fulton County, Illinois. Read More	DIED, Stephen Seward --At his home near Taylorsville, Friday June 2, 1899, Stephen Seward aged 74 years, 5 months and seven days. Stephen Seward was born in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio, December 26, 1824, where he lived until he was ten years old, when he went with his parents to Fulton County, Illinois. On October 22, 1843, he was united in marriage with Delsena Crawford. In the fall of 1851 they moved to Iowa, locating on a farm in the township of Illyria, Fayette County, Iowa, where he resided until the fall of 1858 when they removed to Mercer County, Missouri. Three years later they returned to Iowa, again locating in Illyria township, Fayette County. In March 1880, they moved to Audubon County, Iowa, where they resided until the fall of 1897 when they removed to Miner, Miner County, South Dakota. In the fall of 1898 he returned to this county and with his grandson, Mr. Markley, rented Joseph Mitchel's farm, near Taylorsville where his death occurred as stated above. The deceased has been a member of four different Christian organizations, first uniting with the Free-will baptist in the year 1854, and ever finding a home with some Christian organization wherever he located. He joined the Masonic organization many years ago and was a zealous member of York Lodge 202, at Arlington, for twenty-three years, demitting in 1890 when he located to Audubon county. He leaves to mourn his loss, his aged wife, one son, William Seward of this township, and three daughters, two living in South Dakota and one in Audubon County, Iowa. Stephen Seward was an honest, upright and conscientious man. The funeral took place from the house on Sunday and the interment made at the Patch Prairie cemetery, the services being conducted by his brother Masons, agreeable to his request made during his last illness. His funeral was largely attended; some thirty teams in the procession from the house and as many more joining at Wadena. Before reaching the cemetery the procession was met by thirty members of the Elgin Masonic Lodge, who conducted the services at the grave. The bereaved family have the deep sympathy of the community.
