Description	:	Civil War Union Army Officer. He was involved in military affairs prior to the Civil War and was Colonel of the 3rd Regiment of Light Infantry, a militia unit from Plymouth County. He was commissioned as a Captain on May 16, 1861, and mustered into military service with the 18th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry on August 24, 1861, in command of Company D. On March 1, 1863 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. A fractured leg suffered in May 1863 forced him to resign his commission on September 3, 1863. Following the war he was employed as a superintendent by the Barstow Stone Company in Providence, Rhode Island from January 1864, until April 1872 and then the Taunton Locomotive Manufacturing Company in Taunton, Massachusetts from 1872 until his death. He died at age 63 in Taunton.
