Born in Granby, son of the late John H. and Blanche (Lyons) Viets, he lived in Windsor for 57 years. Sterling graduated from Simsbury High School in 1940 and served in the U.S. Army, Panther Division, in the European Theatre during World War II. Read More	T SGT U.S. ARMY WORLD WAR II RECIPIENT OF PURPLE HEART <3 Sterling H. Viets, 83, of Windsor, husband of Esther (Olsen) Viets, died Friday, (Oct. 28, 2005) at the Suffield House. Born in Granby, son of the late John H. and Blanche (Lyons) Viets, he lived in Windsor for 57 years. Sterling graduated from Simsbury High School in 1940 and served in the U.S. Army, Panther Division, in the European Theatre during World War II. He had received the Purple Heart and was a proud survivor of the troop ship Leopoldville when it was torpedoed Christmas Eve 1944 in the English Channel on its way to the Battle of the Bulge. He was in the automobile business most of his career working for Snow Buick, Capitol Motors, and Jack O'Keefe Chevrolet. He started his family business, the Rainbow Bus Company in Windsor in 1963 and served as its president until 1995. Sterling was a member of Washington Lodge #70 A.F. & A.M., Sphinx Temple AAONMS, Gray Dickinson Post #59 American Legion and was a former member of the Bradley Field Kiwanis Club. Besides his wife Esther he leaves three sons, John S. Viets, Dr. Douglas H. Viets , and Sterling N. Viets ; three granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; The funeral will be Wednesday, Nov 2, 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, East Granby with military honors. Washington Lodge #70 will conduct a Masonic service at 7:45 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104. .
