Read More	USA STUDEN PILOT MEETS DEATH IN CRASH CHRISTMAS EVE Christmas festivities on the airport were naturally subdued as the result of a flying accident which occurred last Thursday afternoon in which a USA Student Pilot, Thomas Stirling Monroe Jr. of Okanogan, Washington, lost his life. The tragedy was felt most keenly by the Course 64 graduating class of which he was a member, for they were all lined up for their wings parade on the Monday, and the unfortunate young man was out doing his final hour of solo flying to complete his course. The plane hit a high tension power line and was a total wreck. Deceased had taken his ITS at Edmonton, his Elementary at High River, and his Service Flying at Claresholm, so had lived in Alberta for nearly a year. He was accompanied here by his wife and little son of about four years. Both had won many friends here who were sincere in the sympathy to the bereaved widow. The officers and men on the Station did everything in their power to ease the shock upon the sorrowing widow. The wings party was cancelled and these funds turned over to her. She was accompanied by an Air Force funeral party to Macleod depot where the Padre, Flight Lieutenant Roe, conducted the official military burial service. He was accompanied by Flying Officer Edmonds and deceased's flying instructor, Pilot Officer Cook. Before the funeral party left for Maclead, Squadron Leader D. D. Atkinson, on behalf of the Commanding Officer, accompanied by Flight Lieutenant R. A. Haywood, the flight commander under whom deceased had trained, proceeded to the home of Mrs. Monroe and made the formal presentation of her husband's "wings", which she in turn handed over to her little son. Sgt. Watson, a fellow class member of Monroe's in Course 64, was detailed by the Commanding Officer to accompany Mrs. Monroe and the remains of her husband to their home town in Okanogan, Washington. Sgt. Watson and his wife were also from the west coast state of Washington. As detailed elsewhere in this issue, Sgt. Watson was presented with his "wings" at a special ceremony before he left the Staton.
